Elrond and Galadriel are two of the most powerful Elves in The Lord of the Rings, but only one of them would win if their abilities were put to the ultimate test. The star-glass and the box of the Earth were found with Sam when he and Frodo were rescued after their collapse. Sam Gamgee also tried to use the Phial of Galadriel at Mount Doom but the power of the Phial faded because Sauron was much more powerful than Galadriel. When used for the second time, the star-glass shone brightly in response to his honesty and strength. ![]() He used it twice to overcome the Two Watchers guarding the Tower of Cirith Ungol. Galadriel's orchard given to the gardener Sam and the phial of light from Earendel's star given to Frodo that will lighten dark places ( 1 : 488 ). The light exhibited an extraordinary brightness when used by the indomitable spirit. Sam used the light to attack Shelob and saved Frodo. During Lord of the Rings, Galadriel offers the Fellowship gifts that will help them throughout their journey.One of these is the Phial of Galadriel, which she gives to Frodo. Sam held the star-glass while Frodo cut through the webbing. When Shelob approached, Sam Gamgee reminded him of the gift and they used it to drove the spider away. ![]() Frodo had also used the Phial of Galadriel when he and Gamgee entered the Mordor and had to defend themselves against the attacks of Shelob’s lair. Galadriel foreshadows Frodo’s voyage in her lament, which includes the words nai hiruvalyë Valimar, maybe thou shalt find Valimarthe city of the Valar, which is in Valinor. A crystal Phial containing water from her fountain, the Phial of Galadriel held the light of the Two Trees preserved in a Silmaril.
